Factors We Evaluated
1. It’s easy to use
This was my top requirements. I wanted a label-maker that I could take out of the box and start using it immediately without the need to read instructions. The label-making process should be easy. The time it took each label maker to create a label was very different. The first model took 15 seconds, which is very long when you are waiting for a small label to be printed. While the winner model took only 5 seconds to print exactly the same two words.
2. Material Design/Quality
I was searching for labels that aren’t too bulky or heavy, but feels good and sturdy in your hands. The high-end quality of each manufacturer’s tape was crucial for me. Some tapes were smooth and shiny and smooth, while others were rough or dull. I also wanted to find out if they were easy to use after printing, i.e. Could I peel the backing paper from the labels without difficulty or would I require a pair of tweezers and a flashlight?
3. A Variety of functions
As I mentioned earlier I’m a fan of a simple label maker. I don’t require fancy templates and I don’t need “fun” fonts. But, I do occasionally need to alter font size or capitalization. I’d rather do this without the need to read an entire guide.
